"Education is a process of living and not a preparation for future living."

2010 Start up in the Preparatory School

Grade 1
Going to "big school" is so exciting:  new uniform, new teacher and new friends to be made.  It can, however, also be quite daunting.  Despite this, the Grade 1's at Grantleigh were full of enthusiasm and both classes were full of happy and excited faces.

Grade 2
The first day in Grade 2 went very smoothly.  The teachers met their new pupils along with their parents and they all had big smiles on their faces - happy to be back at school.  The pupils have all settled well and the new children have been taken under the wing of a "buddy".

Grade 3
The Grade 3's were all delighted to be back at school and are very excited about the new things that they are learning.  See what pupils themselves have to say at the end of this article.

Grade 4
The Grade 4’s have settled in to the excitement and challenges of the Senior Preparatory. We extend a warm welcome to the Tracy’s who have joined the Grantleigh family and wish Gary Tracy (Grade 4 WG) and Ross Tracy (Grade 1 MT) a long and happy stay with us.

Grade 5
The beginning of a new year and the Grade 5 classes are eager and ready for all the exciting plans ahead. Our Parent Information evening was held on 26 January and gave all the parents an opportunity to discuss the year’s plans and meet the teachers. We welcome two new pupils - Camirin Smith and Nkanyezi Myeza -to our grade and wish them both a happy and fruitful year in their new school.

The Grade 5 classes will be going on their annual excursion to Durban, in March. There will be many new exciting venues to visit. Our Outreach Programme will take place over Valentine’s week and we are looking forward to our well attended Games Evening, which will be held in the last week of this term.
Our sporting programme is well under way with the pupils participating in sports codes such as cricket, swimming, tennis, aerobics and chess.

Grade 6
“What oil does for an engine, enthusiasm does for your work; it makes it go easily.”
There is always something special about the start of a new year, but this is surpassed by the start of a new school year! On the 19 January 2010, forty two Grade sixes made their way to their various classrooms. Teachers and children alike were surrounded by an air of eager anticipation. Grade six is a year where enthusiasm is emphasized as a vital tool with which to meet all the challenges courageously! Pre-teen years are crucial in shaping attitudes and good work ethic. Grade six is a year where we advocate and help all children to develop good time management, organisational skills as well as a degree of independence. 2010 for the children in our care will be a year to look back on where goals have been reached and aspirations fulfilled. This year we would like to welcome Tamryn and Declan Morkel, Katya Johnson and Zander  Botes and their families to Grantleigh.
