Grantleigh's Cycling Ace

Richards Bay cycling ace Heidi Dalton, riding for the Cycle Lab CSA U23 women’s team, took gold both in the time trial and road race at the South African Championships held in Nelspruit.

And she faced some serious obstacles in the time trial race, but refused to be fazed. Last Thursday Dalton’s preparations for the highly specialized time trial event were severely disrupted when her bike was not approved due to a technical non-compliance issue.
Heidi was then forced to participate in the 15km time trial on her standard road bike, but nevertheless powered her way through the field to claim victory by over three minutes.

Two days later on a challenging course, Dalton broke away at about 5km on the first major climb of the day, with the rest of the group unable to respond to the fast pace. She then rode the remainder of the 60km on her own, eventually winning the race by over eight minutes.

These two victories, together with her 2011 crowning as RSA Mountain Bike Champion, make her the current wearer of three South African jerseys.”

More recently, Heidi was the first junior home at the Cape Argus Cycle Tour in Cape Town last weekend where she narrowly missed the pile-up which occurred at the finish of the ladies race.

Well done, Heidi!  We are extremely proud of you.
